On what device can I use Astrid?

You can use Astrid on your desktop computer and iOS/Android smartphone. In order to for you to get the best learning experience, we suggest the following:

  • For desktop, use Google Chrome when you are accessing the desktop app.
  • For mobile, make sure to have the latest versions of iOS and/or Android installed on your device.

Can I study with Astrid offline?

No, this is not currently possible. We might include this feature in a future release!

I forgot my password!

To reset your password you have to go to the login page:

Scroll down and click on “Forgot Password?” at the bottom of the page. When the pop-up window appears, enter the email address associated with your account. Click on “send recover email” and a message will soon appear in your inbox. Follow the steps in the message to reset your password.

I have not received an invitation email

It can take a couple of minutes depending on your email provider for the email to arrive. If the email does not arrive after a little while, don’t worry! Try looking in the “spam” folder, chances are your email provider thinks it is spam. If it still does not work, contact us at support@astrideducation.com for help.

Why are the words turning red despite correct pronounciation?

If the words are turning red despite correct pronunciation there are most likely an issue with the sound recording. Checkout the "My Microphone doesn't work" question on the teachers or parents section for more help.

How do I setup my first class?

After logging into your account, click on “My Classes” located in the top right hand corner of the screen. Now click on “Create new class”, enter the name of your class and choose grade. When that’s done, click on create to continue. You now have two options for adding students to your new class:

1) Individually add each students or
2) add multiple students at once.

If you want to add a single student at the time, click on “Add student” and fill in the details in the text boxes. Note that there has to be at least one parent email address provided. Click on the check mark symbol once you are done. Repeat this process for every student you want to add to your class.

The second alternative is to add multiple students at the same time by uploading either a “.csv” or “.xlsx” file containing all student data. Click on “Upload class list” and follow the steps provided there.

When you are done adding students (through either alternative 1 or 2), click on “Share student logins”. This will send an invitation to each student's parents email addresses containing instructions for how they should proceed. Once all parents have completed their sign up processes, your class will be completed.

Can I edit my classes?

Yes! You can change the class name by clicking on "My Classes" on the top right hand corner of the screen, and then choose the class you wish to change to edit. Now click on the pen symbol on the right side of the class name on the top of the page and type the new name. Click on the check mark symbol to complete the change.

You can also edit the class grade by clicking on the pencil symbol to the right of the grade, choose an alternative from the dropdown list, and click on the check mark to finish editing.

How can I change my account details?

If you wish to update your account details, head over to your profile page by clicking on “Profile” in the top right-hand corner. Under “Account settings” click on the pen symbol for the corresponding detail you want to update. When you’ve finished editing, click on “Save” to save the changes.

The microphone doesn't work (Mobile users)

For the app to work correctly, you need to make sure that your device’s microphone is turned on. 

For iOS devices: Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone > and make sure that the Astrid app has been enabled.

For Android devices: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > App permissions > Microphone > and confirm that Astrid has been granted authorization.

The microphone doesn't work (Desktop users)

For Astrid to work correctly, you need to make sure that you’ve allowed your web browser to access the microphone. 

For Chrome: 
1) At the top right, click three buttons and then “Settings”.
2) Under "Privacy and security," click Site settings.
3) Click on “Microphone”.
4) Make sure that “https://teach.withastrid.com” is under “allowed”.
5) Save settings by closing the settings tab.

For Safari: 
1) Open Safari Preferences.
2) Select “Websites”.
3) Select “Microphone” and set it to “Allow”.
4) Restart Safari.

For Firefox:
1) Click the menu button and select “Preferences”.
2) Click “Privacy & Security” from the left menu.
3) Scroll down to the Permissions section.
4) Click the “Settings” button for the Microphone option.
5) Firefox displays the websites with saved Allow or Block permission.
6) Use the Allow/Block selector to change permission for the website.
7) You can remove the site by selecting it from the list and clicking the Remove Website.
8) Select the Block new requests asking to access your microphone checkbox if you do not want to give any other sites access to your microphone.
9) Click the “Save Changes” button.

What data is collected and how is it used?

Here is a brief overview of the data we collect.

Personal information:
Your name and email is necessary to create an account. If you choose to use your Google account, then we will collect this information from there instead. We’ll also collect credentials such as passwords for authentication purposes. 

Teaching & learning:
The data we collect is directly related to teaching and learning. For students we collect data on individual learning goals, number of completed stories & exercises and level of comprehension/fluency/pronunciation. Our machine learning algorithms use this data to adapt and personalize content to match the users needs.For teachers we collect data on classes to monitor their progress and deliver actionable insights. Lastly, we collect information about the schools associated with the teachers and students. 

Device performance:
We collect data like what device you’re using, its system software version and what version of the app you’re currently using. This data is used for bug and crash reporting which helps improving the user experience.

We do NOT:
- Sell your data/information to third parties.
- Use the microphone permissions on your devices for anything else other than for speaking & reading exercises.

I've forgot my password!

To reset your password you have to go to the login page:

Teachers

How do I set up my first class?

Can I edit my classes?

Yes! You can edit your classes by clicking on "My Classes" on the top right-hand corner of the screen, and then choose the class you wish to change.
 
Now click on the pen symbol on the right side of the class name on the top of the page and type the new name. Click on the check mark symbol to complete the change. You can also edit the class grade by clicking on the pencil symbol to the right of the grade, choose an alternative from the dropdown list, and click on the checkmark to finish editing.

If you want to remove a student from a class, click on the trash can symbol under “Actions” for the student in question. A pop-up window will appear asking for confirmation, click “DELETE” to complete the process or “Cancel” to abort.
